I'd also be interested to hear why you oppose the change of icons. Obviously you think the current icons are better, but could you elaborate a bit more?

Some of problems with the old icons are (which is why Jürgen and I decided to propose new ones): * Insert icons unclear (cross-reference/citation/index/nomenclature...). E.g. many users think of a citation when seeing the book metaphor in the cross-reference icon. * Icons are nearly invisible with darker window themes (lack of contrast, no outlines)
* Float icons difficult to distinguish from icons for graphics/table itself
* Mix of different styles
* KDE 2 style doesn't match modern operating systems

If you could describe some reasons why you prefer the current icons, that would be useful to maybe find a compromise or to take into account in future designs.
