Yes. As usual, 1.6.1 (and maybe 1.6.2, depending on the reports) will probably
be a bug fixing release only, but I see no problem introducing this feature in
a minor release. Maybe we can put it in a branch in the meantime?
If we had an up-to-date patch, I'd be happy to help maintain it
henceforth, by putting it into a branch and keeping the branch itself up
to date. I once had a set of scripts to do this, but seem to have erased
them....
