The simple solution, which is essentially Richard's proposal, is that:

then just share that directory. Probably a "Zip for output" that puts
all files in a single zip would just as convenient without losing any
simplicity. The user can then unpack the file just like any other zip
with their favorite utility.
The proposal I was making is pretty much the same as this, except that
it unzips and rezips for you.
