Dear lyx developers,
Before v1.5, the AMS math layouts had a Case environment that was broken, in the sense that its counter continued incrementing. When you're arguing by Cases, you want "Case 1", and then "Case 2", and later on in another proof, you may want another "Case 1" and "Case 2". Working with this involved manual use of setcounter, which is a bad thing.

Version 1.5 fixed this. However, the previous version was formatted exactly as one would want this sort of argument to be formatted, and the new version was awkward.

Below, I have a patch to amsmaths.inc which uses the machinery of the new version, but which is closer in format to the old. (In particular, its flush with the margins, and italics rather than bold).

A more general question: I have 3 or 4 other bug fixes/additions that I'd be interested in making to the ams math layouts. Would patches to this be well-received?

        Sincerely,

                                                --Russ Woodroofe
