You should neither conclude from you (or your environment) to others. I know
several people who don't like it.

I agree with Enrico that some automatic as-you-type-stuff should not be
done, but using the same mechanism that it used for LaTeX errors (an error
list where you can select an error and the problematic part of the text
gets highlighted) would be very valuable. This does not get in your way
while typing, but it enables you to identify the problematic character when
needed.

The View->Source dialog should never be needed for using LyX. It is a nice
gimmick for people who know LaTeX, but users who don't should never be
forced to use it.
