This is wrong.
These are Greek characters, not mathematical symbols. Mathematical symbols have their own code points in unicode. So you use the wrong symbols in word.

But philosophers like myself occasionally use Greek letters (because we quote ancient Greek) in otherwise English texts, and it would be nice to be able to cut-and-paste these into LyX. So don't use this as a reason not to include Greek characters!
