Perhaps I am special but for me only modal dialogs really need to
remain dialogs and all other dialogs should be converted to
dockwidget. This is because I always work in full screen mode. With
Tabified dockwidget this is even better because the dialog is a single
click away if already open.
You're special then. :-)
Not so special, I know a lot of people working like me :-)
Now, dock widgets are fine for some things that need to stay open while
working on the main window. And so my biggest dock-wishes is the
search&replace and spellcheck dialogs.
Yes.
I don't ever work maximized though - they could remove the max button and
I wouldn't notice. The reason is that LyX isn't everything. I tend to have
a few shells and a web browser too. Those are not integrated in LyX,
so I size the windows as I need.
I understand your needs and I used to do like this too. But nowadays, I
personally just use Alt-Tab to switch to another app. An I reckon many
people do the same as me.
I understand that maximizing can be useful when you don't need to see
extra material, but many people do need that. So please don't move LyX
in a direction where maximization will be necessary. The fact that
LyX don't need the full screen width (when not using outline) is a great
advantage.
Now, if some of those docking things could be made to dock to the
outside of
the main window, not only the inside . . .
Of course this is already possible and I plan to add these kind of
settings to the session file.
