I use at least one such (commercial) application regularly.

I agree that the interface should be kept clean, and we should definitely 
not introduce any checkbox, but there is also a tendency to remove expert 
features that have been existing for a long time because people do not see 
the need. I don't like that either.

That is a different problem. These menu entries should of course not exist 
if there is no selection support. I will implement that if we decide to 
keep them in general and if we are not going to use the clipboard as 
Enrico wants it.

I will also implement proper enabling/disabling of these lfuns in 
getStatus, that is currently missing.
