Since a lot of people ask for RPMs of LyX, and since several people have
been able to contribute one to each request, could there not be an
"official" RPM? It could be kept on the LyX site, uploaded to RedHat
contrib, and deal with a few small configuration issues (such as putting
the files under /usr rather than /usr/local, which is standard for RPMs as
opposed to user-compiled packages).

As things are getting quiet on the release front (fingers crossed for no
more show-stoppers!) now would seem to be a good time to do this job.
Perhaps one of the people who's already done an RPM could do it?
