I would say it is time to make a backup if this bug could affect you. You 
should have one anyway and this way you will not lose any data. I know it may 
be recoverable from a live session but this way if you do end up with a non 
booting system you have not lost anything. 

Having an install on an external hard disk with not much data on it could be a 
really nice way to test this. First you could have the latest updates on it 
then try to boot from usb from many different machines and see which chipsets 
are effected. A large usb flash drive may work too in a pinch but those wear 
out faster. This also won't effect data on their partitions if you do not own 
the machine and it belongs to a friend or family member.
