I'm sharing this conversation about including THREDDS on OSGeo-Live.
I'd be interested to hear thoughts on Ethan's comments about Docker.
Ethan,
The next step in including THREDDS to OSGeo-Live is to officially apply,
as per:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc#How_to_add_a_project_to_OSGeoLive
If you wish to join our next release then please send us an email in the
next week officially asking to apply.
Warm regards, Cameron

Greetings Cameron,
I do not mind at all if you share and move this over to the OSGeo-Live
list. We have team meetings every Thursday, so I will be sure to bring
this up tomorrow to get a feel for it. One question off the top of my
head is do you support using Docker to install software? I know it's
not mentioned in the wiki, but it makes installation of the THREDDS
Data Server pretty painless, and is what we have moved to for running
our training workshop.
Cheers!

Hi Sean,
Thanks for getting back. Do you mind if I share our emails on the
public OSGeo-Live list Live-demo@lists.osgeo.org

Great to hear that THREDDS is going strong.
My key question is whether THREDDS wishes to be included on
OSGeo-Live?
http://live.osgeo.org
It is an excellent outreach and marketing tool for Open Source
projects, which is handed out on USBs/DVDs at conferences, used by
educators in virtual machines in workshops and training programs,
and of course from our website.
We are right now kicking off the process for our next release (see
bottom of this email thread). The process for on boarding new
projects is described here:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc#How_to_add_a_project_to_OSGeoLive
If you and your team would like to join us (and I hope you do),
please start by emailing an application to our email list (as
explained in link above).
Warm regards,
Cameron Shorter (one of the OSGeo-Live coordinators)

Greetings Cameron,
Thank you for considering the addition of the THREDDS project in
OSGeo-Live. First and most importantly, I want to assure you that
the THREDDS project has not stalled and is indeed still active.
Our latest release for both netCDF-Java and the THREDDS Data
Server is version 4.6.3, and was released on 31 August 2015.
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/blogs/news/entry/netcdf-java-library-and-tds
We are approaching our next release, and hope to have it out by
the end of the year (v4.6.4). Note that most of our active
development has been on v5.0, which includes a major rewrite and
extension to the way gridded datasets are handled in general.
This release will also included the latest version of ncWMS
(a.k.a. edal-java). We hope to have a beta available sometime in
December.
While the original lead developer, John Caron, is no longer with
Unidata, the THREDDS team is quite strong, and Unidata has
doubled down on its commitment to the THREDDS stack - no worries
of this project becoming abandonware.
If you would like to get an idea of current participation in the
project, including external contributors, please see our github
project page (includes both netCDF-Java and the THREDDS Data Server):
https://github.com/unidata/thredds
If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to
contact us!
Cheers!

Hi Ethan,
Are you the right person to talk to about THREDDS?
THREEDS [1] has previously been suggested as a candidate
for inclusion on OSGeo-Live, but more recently I've heard
rumours of a lack of activity from the THREEDS community.
