Just to second that. I am running debian on a beige G3 mac (sort of old
world). Somewhat of a pain to set up since there is no boot loader for
this machine, but the rest was a breeze. Rock solid, security updates,
easy to add packages, etc.

For adsl I use pppoe (setup using pppoeconf) so I can't comment on pptp
though.
