Hi List. I need to choose a linux distro for a firewall router box. I hope someone can share some success stories and recommend some stuff. I've previously used Mandrake's SNF and I found it easy and enjoyable but its pretty old now and I found the hard way that NAAT (the web frontend for SNF) doesn't respond well to people updating its underlying operating system.
The features I wish for in decending importance: - Need to run on low end hardware. currently the target system is a P133 with some 32MB memory. - Easy installation and easy out-of-the-box setup of Internet connection for cable. I got used to Mandrake's DrakConnect type of installation: Next, Next, Finish. - Web front end to manage most if not all functions of the system. must include basic firewall setup. webmin isn't good enough - I want something integrated. - upgradable. something with a history of frequent updates - emphasis on "history" and "frequent". - 2.6 kernel based. I don't want anything floppy based - I want the thing robust and installed on the system's harddrive. Basicly the system is going to be installed in the home of people who are not computer illeterate but don't know what unix/linux is and don't want to know and I'm aiming not to visit them more then I have to, possibly almost none at all. I'll also appreciate any hints and tips you can throw my way. Thx. -- Oded ::.. 9. I got these instructions off the net. I'm going to follow them exactly. Let's see if they work. --Top 100 things you don't want the sysadmin to say ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
