Ah, you are appending the lyrics for the second volta to the first stanza, so of course it is shown in the same line as the first stanza. The solution is to simply append it to the second volta: \addlyrics { \refrain \verseOne } \addlyrics { \refrSkip \verseTwo \refrainTwo } Don't worry about lines where no first volta text is displayed: It will not take up any space for the first stanza, but instead use only the text from the second stanza as its only lyrics line with no additional spacing above.
