the nice thing: Lilypond is not using overly complicated dependencies and is thus well supported with almost all Linux distributions (also Lilypond offers binary downloads as well). Optimally you’d want to use an OS providing a somewhat recent version. The not so nice thing: Frescobaldi is not really maintained, and still based on the qt5 framework, which has been deprecated by the qt company (at least the GPL licenced version). The KDE team has take the job of patching it while they still need it, but we will most likely see distributions dropping qt5 from their repositories in the over the next years. Unless Frescobaldi is ported to qt6 this would mean that frescobaldi also needs to be dropped. At this point the most reasonable approach would probably frescobaldi being delivered with it’s own qt5 environment, i.e. using a flatpack, which should work on all common distributions.
