Here's a patch to music-functions.scm in order to add the showFirstLength property that many LilyPonders (well, myself at least :-) need. It also updates the documentation, and the relevant regtest. This property is overriden by showLastLength, so both cannot be used at the same time -- however, I can hardly imagine a situation where one would need both. Here's the thing: when you already have a full piece, and decide to add a drum part to it, showLastLength will not show you the first bars where you've added drums. Therefore you need this property; another real-world situation I can imagine is when you have a \book with many \scores in it, and want to print an index containing only the beginning of each piece.
