agreed, sadly though not the only country to have that attitude to
their national flag. currently the only world superpower that likes
to think itself as the saviour of democracy, the guardian of all that's
good, the upholder of freedom and bastion against tyranny in the
world has desecration of it's flag written in it's penal code as a
criminal offence. you only have to do a google to find out over
the years the number of people who have been fined, inprisoned
by the state, beaten up and even killed by 'upright citizens' taking
offence at someone burning the stars and stripes, stiching it on
the back of their jeans, etc. and if they should be brought to court
for taking the law into their own hands they usually get put a slap
on the wrist while the perpetrator of the action (presuming said
  person survived) gets much worse.

and yes the actions of Galatasaray are despicable the way they
condone and sanction such activities but equally despicable,
maybe even more so, is the spineless UEFA in effect turning a
blind eye to such things, in any case not taking any real action
apart from that proverbial smack on the wrist. interesting in on
the ropes yesterday one of the things risible said was that on
reflection whatever uefa said leeds should never have played
  the second leg against Galatasaray.
