We all know that Nicholls was bought by Blackwell to replace Butler as captain - which is why Butler crocked him at the first opportunity on the training pitch. Another great captain's example. Coming in half way through the season, Wise did not have the luxury of changing everything he wanted to. There had to be some sense of continuity, and the confirmation of Nicholls as captain was part of that continuity. Now Nicholls has finally shown himself to be not up to the task - part of the blame must go on Wise for poor judgement maybe, but what were the alternatives when he joined? Who else is actually worthy of being captain?
