Mini break and work busy so haven't read many posts over last week. Few thoughts.
Blackwell's decline has a terminal feel now - players unguardedly saying they want him out (see WACCOE, R Blake thread), chants starting at matches, listless performances, awful run of form, plaintiff and half hearted calls to rally round by Eddie Gray. Whatever side of any fence you sit on, or whether you proudly sit atop said fence, I think we can all now see that rightly or wrongly a change is needed. A rot has set in that needs to be dealt with quick before our whole season is undermined. So I turn to the fella I said we should have appointed for about the last 3 managers (I went on and on about it when we appointed Venables) - Alan Curbishley. Always rated him, he's keen to get back into management in October. 1 month earlier for the right job will be ok I'm sure. We are in a very lucky position that a very good manager is willing to take the step down at this very moment in time., We must not look that gift horse in the mouth. To me Curbs has been making come and get me noises to Leeds - I think he really wants the job. First of all he says he will be available in October. Then he said he would come down to the Championship if it was a big enough club. Then he says he would have no problem managing in the North. All points to us (well and Sunderland but they have made a bonkers appointment). I just hope that Bates sees the way the wind is blowing and makes the change after Wednesday irrespective of the result in that game. I can never bring myself to want a bad result for us, however much I think that bad result may result in a longer term benefit, so will believe that the change is coming anyway...
