You can't solve the problem unless you know what you are dealing with. Have
you tried placing a standard telephone (mechanical ringer) across the line
to check for ringing characteristics? If there is a problem when connected
directly (no other loads) it is your telco's problem. Be sure to check the
phone at the office before you leave for the site.

Where is the customer located? Maybe someone on this list is nearby and
wouldn't mind taking a fresh look at it.

Have you tried connecting the KSU directly to the incoming line (no other
wiring involved)? Additional loads on the line can overload the CO ringing
generator.

We have had several cases locally where the lack of incoming calls, or
reliable ringing was caused by a faulty Ring Generator at the CO.

You need a voltmeter that will read accurately at 20 Hz. Take all loads off
the circuit and measure the ring voltage for an incoming call. You could
also use an oscilloscope, but remember you are dealing with a balanced line,
so you may need two probes and a differential input.

Place the KSU only on the CO line and measure the ring voltage

Subject: KX-T: KXT-624 Stuttering/Clipped Ring Problem, Continued

Thanks for all the suggestions on testing line voltage, getting the phone
company involved, etc.

Unfortunately we haven't been able to schedule a service call with the
customer yet, and are hoping to have some kind of interim solution to put in
place next time we visit. The problem may take some time to clear up if the
phone company has to be involved, and the customer is quickly losing his
patience since the complete replacement of his KXT-624 did not solve the
problem.

Does anyone know of any devices that can detect an incoming call and
generate a full ring, whether or not the incoming call signal is interrupted
or weak? We're hoping to install such a device between the verizon NID and
the KXT-624 on all incoming lines, hoping that it will cause the system
phones to ring normally instead of clipping off when the verizon line
voltage fails (assuming that is the problem).

Thanks again,

Rob H.
