Charles, Thanks for the response. In this application, most of the calls are indeed local, however, we have a large number of traveling sales people (realtors) that come into the office and use the phones. We just want to tell them 'dial 9 to get out' and not want to have to train them on selecting specific lines, etc. I know that even if we tell them 'don't use line 3 for long distance', they will ignore this and the long distance rates are high for that line (because we really don't need long distance on 3 lines)
I am a newbie to the PBX world, this is my first, however, I am a programmer by training, so I suspect I could do the programming if someone got me started. I really have no idea currently how the ARS works, or even what exactly it is. I do have some manuals that I have not yet consumed. I do have some programming software called the 'kx-td programmer' that I have begun using to program the terminals. Any tips on how to get started with ARS? Thanks!! Of the hundreds of systems I've installed over the years, no one has ever asked to make use of ARS (Automatic Route Selection). While the system should be able to do just what you want, unless you really enjoy the programming part of it, you might consider another way. You could put the lines into trunk groups such that co 1 is the first line, 2 is the second line, and 3 is the third line for outgoing usage order. i.e. when you dial 9 or if the phone are set for preferred outgoing co selection, 1 is first, then 2 then 3. Now just tell people that local calls should be made from line 3. Since you only have 7 people/phones, they could probably manage that. (Now if the majority of calls are local calls, then you could put co 3 as the first line selected, and tell people to use 2 for long distance.) This would save a lot of headaches in trying to make the ARS work.
