N133RM has the original design (combined pitot & static) sourced on the right wing. I installed a Dynon EFIS and added a second pitot probe with their Angle Of Attack port on the left wing. That required a new static port installation.

My first attempt followed Mark’s designed placement just behind the firewall. After many failed attempts to get a reliable reading, I moved it aft of the cockpit to a location similar to where Robert Pesak & Roger Baalman placed theirs. That worked perfectly on the first try.

Both the failed and successful installations are documented on my web site. http://www.bouyea.net/cur_proj/N133RM/staticport_installation_sequence.html

Good luck!

Chris,

My static port started out per plans and it was never an issue. Over the years I have added additional instruments and now it is just vented to the inside behind the panel.

My indicated stall and vertical speeds are the same with either installation.

My cruise speed is 125 mph with a Hoverhawk 54 x 49. Revmaster 2100D.

Thanks Chris

I also have the static source open inside the cockpit since the plans location was poor but wanted to get it back to a more conventional spot .

My stall is 53mph IAS and cruise around 125 mph IAS with the 2180 VW and 52x48 Prince P-tip  prop.

I believe you are running a Corvair?

I started with the stock position: stalled at 40 with a 200 mph max airspeed

Tried side ports even with the panel: stalled at 75 and went like 160

I've been flying with the static inside the cockpit ever since. It is with 5mph of true. 67 mph stall and 175 cruise.

Wondering what most KR builders have done for pitot /static probe mounting locations.

Specifically the static source as per the plans (upper tube for pitot and lower for static) built option has been poor .
Turbulence and air flow over the wing and wheel pant cause unstable vertical speed fluctuations.

Looking to change my static source to the side of the fuselage like a Cessna or something else.

Any thoughts or ideas on this ?

Thanks
