I have some information that may be of interest to those who wonder how the
horizontal tail might fail.
When I was moving around in my barn. I tripped and fell backwards onto the
starboard side of my horizontal stabilizer!
When I inspected the tail, the front and aft webs of the forward horizontal
stabilizer spar had unzipped like a zipper along the bottom edge of the
horizontal stabilizer spar! No other failures had occurred. If I remember
correctly Dan Diehl had his early design tail come loose. Others may remember
that story. Sadly a lot of the original guys have passed away.
