I have a 1947 Bellanca cruiseair 14-13-2. In 2000 I restore the airplane from the ground up. There were two patches on the wings from an accident that happened in the 1950s. We pull those two sheets off and inspected the wings from tip to tip. There was not a single flaw in either of those wings. as someone said they're on a lot of wood airplanes still out there flying. As long as they're kept inside and not in the rain and weather they will last forever. Mine was always kept in a hanger but was never in a climate controlled hangar. It surprised everybody how nice the wings looked. I bought another 46 model I was going to restore and found out it had been left outside For three years and it had Wood rot at the beginning of the spar where it met the fuselage. As long as you keep a wood airplane inside the majority of time the wood they use will last forever. Mine is made out of spruce and mahogany. Up until the bellanca factory closed they were still building the airplanes out of wood and tube with cloth covering. The wings Are covered in cloth to protect the wood. Anything can happen to an airplane. But as someone else said as far as anybody knows that is the only spar failure there is ever been.
