I totally forgot to mention to join a local EAA chapter.

A quick search indicates you have one just 40 miles away at Oraville,
CA. There may be one closer if you check. While you may not have a KR
builder anywhere in your area the local EAA chapter will have members
with the expertise and knowledge you need for support.
While the product support for the KR seems to have evaporated over the
30 years I've been a member of the KR community the knowledge base
continues to expand. With members like Mark Langford and Jeff Scott,
just to name a few, and the many members that have completed beautiful
KR's around the world, the possibilities are endless for completing a
really nice KR.
