Willie Wilson was an awesome person. Not only was he the technical
advisor for many of the KRs that have been built in the UK in recent
decades, but also did the first flight in many of them! He was a 747
pilot on intercontinental flights for decades, and had a LOT of funny
stories about various flights and incidents. One of them was having to
wake up the guy in the tower one night (Nairobi, I think), so he buzzed
the tower in the 747, because to land without permission could have
gotten him into trouble! And stuff like the stowaway, who once
discovered (before takeoff) was forced by Willie to exit the plane
through the maintenance hatch, which involves climbing down the greasy
landing gear and walking all the way back to the terminal (or wherever
he came from). All of his stories were amusing, and it didn't matter if
it was the first time or the fifth time you'd heard it, he'd have you in
stitches before it was over, just in anticipation of the ending.
Willie and Margaret hosted our family several times on visits to the UK,
and rolled out the red carpet for us each time. It's hard to imagine a
kinder, funnier guy, and he will be missed....
