I'm with Jeff on this. You can pick any point in the universe to
measure from and the answer will be the same. I use the forward face of
my 5" prop extension. I would suggest some distance from the main gear
contact point (the axle) out ahead of any point of the aircraft. That
makes all numbers positive. The C.G. location on the aircraft does not
change, just the distance from the datum. The CG location on the
aircraft will now be the distance from the location on the wing to the
new measuring point. Different numbers, same location. Like the
firewall, that number will never change. Make sure it is noted properly
on your W&B sheet.
