Other than following the plans for critical structure and systems, try not to over think building a KR.  For example, the area listed above.  When it came to that point in my building , a dozen years or so, I just wanted to get the KR in the air.  I laid up fiberglass strips to cover the wing attach gap but didn't like the way the turned out.  I put them in the trash and went to the hardware store and purchased a roll of aluminum roof flashing.  I cut it down the middle giving me two 3 inch strips.  I put one strip on each wing and attached with 4 small #4 screws on the top and maybe an equal number on the bottom.  700+ hours later with remove and replace each year and they are still like the day I applied them.  Well, maybe a bit worse for ware but not to the point I need to replace them.  The gap does need to be covered to eliminate drag but just cover them and go fly.  A photo shows the covers and the 4 small screws that secure them to the top of the wing.  They have survived 200 mph on at least one occasion.
