On a field as short as mine, if I didn't use brakes, I'd run off the end of
the runway every single time. As was mentioned, it's just a matter of
balancing back pressure on the stick with brake pedal pressure, with the
goal of keeping the prop off the runway. Troy Petteway lands on a 5000'
runway and uses brakes most of time. I remember the good ole days of flying
off a 6000' runway, and it was nice to just hold back on the stick until it
wouldn't go any further, and then wait for the tail to drop, but that
doesn't happen on a 2600' strip in my airplane. I will admit that even
Clevelands won't hold a Corvair powered KR at full throttle on runup, so I
don't do full throttle on runup.
