I tested my first KR up to 120 LBS, I won't tell you what I used for weight, cause it was stupid. You should know the maximum weight that your W & B tells you, that you can carry, from your calculations. Pick a weight, maybe half of the maximum. You are going to have to go on feel for all of this, because you have already done your actual weighing and W & B calculations, right? So see how that weight feels. If you see no, or little difference, pick another weight, maybe half to 75% of that, depending on how it felt. As you get closer to your "weighed and calculated" limit, add weights in smaller increments, maybe 10LB at a time. Believe me, you will be able to tell when you are close or have gone too far. Your plane will be almost out of control. The key here is "ALMOST" out of control, because you want to stop before or when you get to that point. Also take into consideration the density altitude, and the varying weight of the fuel. Your final test should be with your established passenger limit weight and minimum fuel that you plan to allow with that passenger on board.
This is from a guy who has only done it once, but did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and you must know that your results WILL vary. I plan to use Secured Sand Bags this time, and will start those tests on the next flight after the surging problem is resolved.
