Isn't your "lawnmower ignition" pretty much what Monnett is using on his AeroVee? See the photo at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/osh2000/000727152.jpg that I took at Oshkosh in 2000. It does have a lot of appeal, but I'll bet the spark isn't exactly brilliant. I think the system I came up with covers the bases pretty well, and has enough reduncancy built in to handle just about any failure (famous last words).
