I'm still not sure why anyone would want to give up easily controllable ground steering for a free catering tailwheel. Having to lock it for takeoff and landing ought to say something. For probably no more than $100 difference (my tailwheel was $200) you can have tailwheel steering AND full castering. My KR, with a 24 inch stretch, 8 foot wide mains, and a STEERABLE,FULL SWIVEL tailwheel taxies better than an old straight tail C182 loaded with jumpers. The tri-gear Cessna with it's narrow , springy gear wonders all over the taxiway. My KR tracks straight as an arrow, even in strong crosswinds and I never, ever, need brakes for steering on taxi, takeoff, or landings. As a matter of fact, it seldom gets hard to handle in landing until I start braking. If it does, I get off the brakes, use my STEERABLE tailwheel to get things straight again, and then get back on the brakes. My STEERABLE tailwheel steering is so smooth and positive that there is no noticeable difference in the takeoff roll with tailwheel on the ground and the transition to tail up. It all feels the same. I'm convinced that anyone that can fly a tri-gear CORRECTLY could fly my KR without a problem. Did I mention that I really like my steerable, full swivel tailwheel? As always, your results may vary. :-) Larry Flesner
