Orma,..are you there!?? (or dear Abbey)
  Removed old oil pump, found corners of the lobe that fits into the end of the 
cam shaft bright, shiney with some metal worn off. Any idea whats happening 
here.
 Bought new Maxi-1 oil pump from Calif. Imports with there assurance that it 
did fit my '76 type 4 engine. It did fit, but I get ZERO oil pressure with it, 
with less than thirty second running. Removed the oil pump cover, found that 
the gears were indeed engaging the cam, but also found that the cover was quite 
scored,...in those few seconds of running.
  Confused and frustrated
