Yep, we don't need the heater. The heater versions (so-called "three wire") are to heat up the sensor quickly to stabilize the idle on injected car engines. We don't have that problem, so the single wire for $30 or so is all we need. I have an official Cyberdyne 2.25" automotive meter that I paid probably 40 bucks for a few years ago (I don't think the company is around anymore), but I found a guy on the internet who cooks up one just like it but in the form of a segmented LED, in three colors (green in the middle, yellow outboard, and red outboard from there) for twenty five bucks. I'll probably cut a rectangular hole for it next to my similar looking trim indicator, and put my g-meter back where the round mixture meter is. I've asked him if he'd be interested in making more of them for other NetHeads, and he's thinking about it...
