Bingo!

The only thing I don't like about the VW is the inability to air-start 
it. I'm leaning toward a starter & battery with no alternator. An engine 
driven charging/storage system is the deciding factor about what 
constitutes an "electrical system". No requirement for a Xponder with 
this setup either. My flying will never intentionally be anywhere near 
airspace requiring ATC.
