Closing them before suspending isn't that much of a problem, and even waiting
for them to timeout isn't compared to the time it takes to mount via fuse
ftp/sshfs/cifs.mount, etc so I can use an app like Brackets to edit a remote
website, or watch a video with VLC, edit an image with gimp, etc.

As much as I would like for all my favorite apps to be native KDE, they just
aren't.

On the other hand, as feature limited as gnome is, this is one area where they
excel and I can use any apps, be they native gnome or not, with their gvfsd
solution.
