I think that adding suffices automatically in the "Save dataset as" menu 
item
may not be a big challenge (I'm not why a new menu item has been added
for this  feature).
I suspect that there are other reasons to keep save dataset as file
(may be to keep a simpler interface)
I'll wait a bit more to get feed back about this point.
Otherwise, I'll try to mix both menu items into one...
