Really?

I'm surprised. Not that she was fired because her husband wanted her to be, but
that he had to ask. In Australia at least, almost all women would be fired
upon marriage automatically. Policy in the public service.

In fact, until the 1986 federal anti-discrimnation act, it was illegal for
married women to work in the Broken Hill (western NSW) region.
