I don't think anyone (resonable, at least..I'll grant that there's at
least one guy out there arguing that bacteria and viruses don't exist and
vaccines are a new world order plot to make all of our children sterile,
but it's pretty obvious that he is *not* a good source of information) is
arguing that the diseases *don't* exist. The argument is whether
vaccinations are safe and effective for everyone. I think they probably
are safe and effective for most people. I think that there is evidence
that it would be better for some infants to delay them by a few years, but
that's a conclusion I've come to on some very tenuous evidence, lacking
much better. With two cases of PDD-NOS (fortunetly both are high
functioning) in my immediate genetic family, one of whom definetly had
issues with both DPT and MMR (my son, as I said) I think caution is
warrented. The polio vaccine, btw, is the only one I would consider
allowing my child to be given before three -- because it's been around for
some time, and actually does seem to be safe (DPT and MMR are definetly
the two most questioned vaccines, in terms of safety, Hep B is pretty new,
and unless there is some risk factor I don't see a reason to give it to my
child before 3)
