I have a friend who is an adult now, but has been walking on crutches since
he was a toddler, didn't have the polio vaccine and contracted it as a
child. I know that about 30 years ago, many thought that the diseases were
wiped out and it wasn't mandatory to have your child vaccinated. There
were outbreaks of polio, I remember hearing about them in the news at the
time. I know many don't like the idea about vaccinations, but the diseases
are still out there.
