Try finding competent perl programmers in India, and you will know why a lot
of people prefer to use Java or M$ technologies for web application
development. When doing commercial development, I have seen that finding a
platform for which you can find people easily is probably more important
than the merits of the platform for most projects.

PS: Finding decent perl programmers in india is not as easy as finding Java,
C, C++ or VB programmers.
