I am not arguing the case on the grounds that it causes an increase in taxation, much as I like the idea. I am arguing that taxation is a sovereign right, and not an issue of "right or wrong". I see no reason why I should pay an extra 5p in Bombay buses for the East Pakistan refugees, 30 years on. Yet I do. I see no reason why I pay Income Tax when I have no income in India, but I do. Fact of life. The State has a gun, I don't. Move along, please. > Given that we live in an imperfect world, LinuxLingam's proposal to > introduce (re-introduce?) a tax on bundled or COTS software seems > eminently reasonable to me. Raj, my objection is that this weakens our case. We have effectively decided that we cannot compete if MS offers software at USD199, so we want the Finance Minister to raise it to USD250? It is wrong, morally, to tax our opponents in an attempt to crush them. If what COTS is doing is "wrong', then we should call for fines, not taxes. -- Sanjeev ================================================ To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header.
