Actually...

You can ask questions about hardware and reliable vendors on the list,
and people are welcome to recommend vendors whom they've had good
experiences with.  I guess it's OK as long as it doesn't become a
purely marketing spiel (My PCs Are Best!  Buy From Me NOW!!!).  If you
have vested interests, please state them clearly (you are an agent of
the vendor, your brother owns the company, your name is Scott McNealy,
etc :-)
