In my opinion, that mail was for H/W compatibility with Linux, I don't see any problems with such things being discussed on the list. Well, Ajith, AMD is very well supported by Linux, atleast Red Hat Linux 7.3. One of my friends is using Athlon XP 1800+ with a Gigabyte M/B I guess. And he wasn't having any problems with sound etc. Anyway, so few people discuss technical problems on this list. :-) GCC does AMD specific optimizations, and as GCC is the system compiler, I guess, you may also get the benefit of fast programs specifically optimized for AMD. If not compile them yourself.
