hi
   it definatly possible to build a  proxy server on Linux. before going for a proxy u 
need to decide what functionalities ur proxy should provide. ie authentication of 
remote hosts/networks,filtering,logging etc + u need to decide where would ur proxy 
reside.like for example if u want to protect a NT mail server and u want proxy to be 
on Linux. then u need to have a gateway proxy for smtp and pop. one such proxy 
available smtpauth and pop3... pls search on google on smtpauth,pop3 proxy is 
available is also on same site.
