Several lpars, each configured as a MONOPLEX, with GRS=NONE, will use the software.

I understand that we would need either physical CTCs or a "coupling facility lock structure". Does this have to be a separate physical component ?

I pasted below information from the “MVS Planning: Global Resource
Serialization” manual for z/OS 2.5. So based on what the manual says you need
to have CTCs that GRS will manage. Just out of curiosity is there going to be
more then one lpar using this software?

How global resource serialization works.
Depending on the level of z/OS and XCF environment the systems are running in,
sysplex or non-sysplex, a global resource serialization complex consists of one
or more systems:

• Connected to each other in a ring configuration through:
  – XCF signaling paths, through CTC or coupling facility
  – Global resource serialization managed channel-to-channel (CTC) adapter
  - Systems in the same sysplex must use XCF signaling
  - Non-sysplex or monplex systems must use GRS-managed CTCs to communicate

• Connected to each other in a star configuration through:
  – XCF signaling paths, through CTC or coupling facility
  – A GRS coupling facility lock structure

Being in a monoplex I assume no.

Subject: GRS in MONOPLEX without physical CTCs ?

Hello,

We recently acquired TACM (Tivoli Adanced Catalog Management).

To use its "MERGECAT WHILE-OPEN" functionality, we would have to
properly configure GRS (we presently have GRS=NONE in IEASYSxx).

I set GRS=START and GRSRNL=00 in IEASYSxx, but when I IPL the system I
get the following message :

ISG157D SYSTEM IN MONOPLEX MODE WITH NO GRS CTC DEFINITIONS. RELOAD
THE SYSTEM OR REPLY NONE TO CONTINUE THE IPL.

Is it possible to configure GRS on a MONOPLEX without physical CTCs ?

Regards,

Frederic Mancini
