Hi Pritpal,
Why confusing. Since its inception it is being used as is.
More we are in a process the pull out the core part out of
GTWVG and totally base it on GTWVT, just like it existed
in xHarbour for so many years.
Being wrong for many years, doesn't justify it IMO.
This just means an additional compatibility issue to
be solved.
Again please I strongly oppose this.
As already agreed upon, contribs are the private areas
and so I would not like it to be changed just because
it does not confirm to some standards.
Maybe you've noticed we've spent many weeks/months
trying to raise the quality of contribs, to be closer
to core, to not break builds, not have bugs.
Just compare the current state to the one
say two years ago. This is - I suppose - a common
interest for Harbour, and us developers. That's also the
reason why I didn't care anymore to separate contribs
from core in distribution (like xhb does, or as we
wanted to do before, there was even discussion about
moving contribs to a different sf.net project). If
contrib quality is comparable to core, this is not
a problem. But this needs cooperation sometimes, and
this means problems to solve sometimes. We've solved
many such already.
A contrib is a private area, but what if it contains
problems influencing builds, containing bugs or
creating other sorts of problems (like support ones
or using internals, etc)? What if original contributor
lost interest in maintaining a contrib? Should we leave
it there untouched forever? Software is a living
thing, so we cannot do this.
[ As an other example hbwhat32 looks a bit abandoned
IMO, I've reported several potential bugs in it, but
you don't seem to be interested :( ]
This has to be documented in a better way. That's it.
Well sure, but until this happens (which can be anything
from 2 to 10 years) it will be a constant source of
misunderstandings, since we have no documentation even
for the core. Even if core has one, it will be a source
of misunderstanding since wvt_SetClipboard() will look
as undocumented core. I think names should help users
to more easily find what they need, rather than
creating extra effort.
Surely yes. But in case GTWVG, no.
That sounds a bit strange for me :)
Please think about it this naming issue, it can be
solved without breaking any code.
Finally, I'd like to ask one thing, I'd like to rename
wvtwin.ch to wvgwin.ch, do you think I can do this one
change?
Brgds,
Viktor
