By "false offering," I mean that the community frequently suggests using filtered transaction reports as a viable workaround for multidimensional reporting. In reality, these workarounds cannot produce standard financial statements customised for distinct business segments.
My perspective comes from decades on the business operations side with enterprise systems that rely on true multidimensional data models. While QuickBooks caps this at two dimensions (via classes), GnuCash’s reporting engine remains constrained to a flat hierarchy. Merely filtering or listing transactions by text does not constitute multidimensional reporting if the system cannot natively aggregate and group that data into analytical segments. Without that reporting layer, filtering text in GnuCash remains a very constrained feature.
