Ah, Maf - "technically" you are correct, sir. What you say is all very
true. BUT.....
If I WANT blank space, I can have it. I can place content in column A
and then R. And in between I can have as much blank space as I want.
And unless I fill all million or so columns, I will always have "space"
on the right side (they are just empty columns). Seems to me in GnuCash
- I can NEVER have space on the left or the right side. Instead, all the
blank space goes to the Description field (in the middle) - AND I CANNOT
STOP THAT. Excel would never widen one of my fields -- it would just
ADD extra blank columns to the right.
Additionally, and you probably know this, if you turn off gridlines
(which you have the option to ALWAYS do) - you have ALL the "blank
space" you want on the right, to the left, or in the middle.
Ergo - You just also made the point for me in how it is different from
spreadsheet behavior. Again - I don't want to belabor the point - but
GNUCash is NOT spreadsheet behavior. We should just point to the
already documented behavior and then we won't misguide anyone who thinks
they can make the columns act like a spreadsheet - when they cannot.

Respectfully, Ken, I disagree.
If you shrink cols A and B to 5 px wide, Excel (and other spreadheets)
"automatically decide" to show extra cols on the right hand side, without
"asking" the user. ie your view now has additional empty cols (eg.) R S T
visible when they were not before and you were not asked if they should be
shown.
Spreadsheets have (almost) infinite columns to show off to the right. GC does
not have spare columns to show to fill the window. GC isn't a spreadsheet,
although in many resects the register view layout is very similar and _mostly_
resizing colums is similar, with the exception that the window will always be
"full" to the RHS (or wider)... Spreadsheets don't have "blank" to the right
side, ever!
