Thanks, Robert. Apparently, unlike most Windows Users you may be acquainted
with, I almost always shut down any program I am using once finished.

In this particular case, I know I shut GnuCast down. However, I DID try and
reopen it within 60 seconds of shutting GC down. I think that is the cause
of my "lock-out".

Your explanation is helpful, but doesn't touch on how I get around this
issue.

I have rebooted my PC and am still locked out of GnuCash, with the same
error message.  Plus - I can see the *.gnucash.LCK* file with a time stamp
of 8:44am this morning (my local time is now 1.11pm).
